Top 10 Coastal Kitchens
Arguably the most important room in any home, a kitchen provides so much more than necessary food prep and storage space. It’s a place to gather with friends and family, celebrate life events and of course, prepare delicious meals.
I wanted to highlight our top 10 coastal kitchens as a showcase of what’s possible in terms of blending natural design elements into the ultimate entertaining spaces. And when the ocean backdrop serves as our main design inspiration, the results are always stunning!
1. Surfside
The gourmet kitchen in this 7,650-square-foot coastal contemporary home is all about entertaining. Double porcelain countertops, multiple sinks and fridges, a butler’s pantry, and a 48-inch range make prepping snacks for guests a breeze. Clean, open and light-filled, the kitchen (and the entire home), was designed with wall-to-wall glass windows and doors.
2. Kan’t Beat the View
This kitchen is a true indoor-outdoor living space with a seamless transition to a screened-in porch. One of the best features of this space are the large La Cantina pocket doors that slide completely into the wall, disappearing and opening up the space to the porch. To break up the white color palette, we incorporated open shelves with recessed lights and a matching wood countertop, and painted the kitchen island in Sherwin-Williams Naval, plus integrated custom white-washed wood detailing.
Designed for overflow entertaining, a butler’s pantry completes the space with a second refrigerator, microwave, sink, dishwasher, and bar. When entertaining, this space may be utilized to easily conceal dirty dishes or food prep, as the pocket door keeps the kitchen clutter-free for guests to enjoy.
3. X-ta-Sea
The overall goal of this home was to capture the oceanfront views from every space, so we angled the house in an L shape, which placed the kitchen in the back corner to take in the views from every direction. This ultimate kitchen includes a large island with porcelain countertop and backsplash that was also installed all the way up to the ceiling and wraps around each window. A modern take on a china cabinet provides convenient storage for serving ware.
4. Weekend at Burnie’s
Each floor of this 2,558-square-foot beach home is filled with fun elements, starting with the staggered, oversized pendants in the kitchen inspired by ones I have in my own home. The varying pendant sizes add a playful element to the kitchen, which also features an expansive island topped with a walnut counter that doubles as a dining table. These elements combined with an updated subway tile along the backsplash and a vintage pantry door with a nod to the homeowners’ surname make you stop in your tracks to take it all in.
5. Paradise Point
This Fenwick Island beach house sits on a peninsula, so we designed the rooms to be architecturally appealing not just from the inside, but also on the outside, especially from the water.
The stunning kitchen features extra thick porcelain countertops, a blue island with matching blue front glass cabinets, and a gorgeous glass mosaic backsplash that glistens in the sunlight. Classic blues and crisp whites complement the random-width white oak floors finished in a custom white stain. The large glass multi-glide door off of the kitchen captures the amazing views of the bay.
6. Ocean Oasis
The gourmet kitchen is an entertainer’s dream with its two refrigerators and six freezer drawers all hidden behind white maple cabinets, plus a full butler’s pantry for extra storage space. Crisp white quartz countertops, glass cabinets, and gold pendants add a touch of coastal elegance.
7. Ocean of Dreams
Packed with creative design elements both inside and out, this kitchen features a custom island with a butcher block top, a farmhouse sink, open shelving, a separate coffee and wet bar, and high-end Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. We recessed the hood and incorporated clear pendants over the island in order to capture unobstructed waterfront views from the island.
8. Forever Grace
One of the top requests from these homeowners was to design ample space for entertaining friends and their large family, so the kitchen was designed with a classic white coastal feel including double islands, white quartz countertops, cathedral ceiling, and separate butler’s pantry. The cathedral ceiling over the range and oval window add architectural details and volume to this coastal kitchen.
9. A11 Inn
This home was built for entertaining! Positioned just one lot from the beach on a previously empty plot of land, the four-story, 6,700-square-foot home features ocean views throughout. Interior amenities include a gourmet kitchen with an abundance of custom details. The kitchen has amazing views and features two sinks including a 6’ galley sink and two islands with solid walnut wood tops that literally took an army to get into the home for installation.
10. Dock Holiday
This kitchen features custom-made reclaimed maple from an old basketball court that goes with the apron surrounding the custom shiplap range hood built in the field, as well as the countertop and open shelving in the wet bar off the living room. The kitchen island boasts a quartz countertop for the food prep area outlined with reclaimed maple along the eating area. One key feature is a custom glass window backsplash that overlooks the canal. To keep the main kitchen and living area bright and airy, recessed lights were used instead of pendants for an open feel and to capture the water views.
