If you’ve ever tracked sand through every room of a beach house, dripped from the pool across freshly cleaned floors, or fumbled with wet towels while trying to get everyone rinsed off and ready for dinner, then you know exactly why we design Beach Prep Rooms.
Instead of laundry rooms, we call these spaces “Beach Prep Rooms.” They’re designed to make getting on and off the beach easy, organized, and to keep the sand outside.
A typical Beach Prep Room is located right off the rear beach entry and outdoor shower, with built-in storage for towels and beach gear, a full refrigerator and freezer, a sink, and laundry. Every detail is designed to help families quickly rinse off, unload sandy items, store equipment, and keep the main living spaces clean, thus creating a functional transition between the beach and the home.
Below, we’re rounding up a few of our favorite Beach Prep Rooms and what makes each one special.
Indoor shower or out? Both are easy options as you come off the beach in our Three’s A Charm build.
This is one of two outdoor showers with a cool resin surfboard design.
Leading into the beach prep room with a full washer/dryer, sink, fridge/freezer and plenty of storage. Plus a fun backsplash.
If outdoor showers aren’t your thing, this full bathroom right off the beach prep room is perfect for a more traditional rinse-off.

This Beach Prep Room in our Oceans Edge build makes the most of its L-shaped layout by treating each wing as its own functional zone. One side for laundry, the other for beach prep, food, and beverage storage. This keeps the space organized and purposeful rather than feeling like a typical utility room.
We love the bright Slow Green cabinetry that ties the two zones together with a cohesive pop of coastal color, balanced by pill shaped white tile and grout for a clean look. The luxury vinyl plank flooring is durable and holds up to sand, water, and sunscreen. French doors open directly to the beach walk and outdoor shower, making the transition from sand to home effortless.

In our 7’s Heaven build, two outdoor showers lead to the beach prep room with a fun blue circle tile designed by Marnie.
With amenities like a washer/dryer, refrigerator/freezer, sink, and storage, this space ensures it’s a breeze to get on and off the beach. Thoughtful details like the laundry cart was bought ahead of time to make sure the measurements were right in it’s nook.

For this Fenwick Island resort-style compound in our Live Lucky build, a Beach Prep Room was a must!
Tucked directly into the screened-in porch, enabling homeowners and guests to fully embrace all outdoor and on-water amenities without ever needing to step inside the main home.
We had some fun with this fish wallpaper, but it’s still fully functional with a powder room, washer/dryer, utility sink, and plenty of storage for towels and sunscreen.

Pura Vida sits on the oceanfront we have multiple designated areas to keep the sand out.
The first stop is the outdoor shower as you come off the beach walk.
This leads to the official beach prep room with laundry, sink, and storage.
Need a quick bathroom break from the beach? This powder room is located right next to the outdoor showers for an easy reprieve without having to go through the house.
Just on the other side is a full kitchen with a refrigerator and freezer to stock up your cooler. Check out the custom bench with drawers for your flip flops.
These homeowners have five furry friends, so we built a dog wash station for them, and it turns out this is a great area to hose off sandy toddlers as well.
